I am not sure if it is just my pair, but Molly's new skates smell awful. I also have an older pair of her red skates and they didn't have this problem. Is this just a trait of this new color or are the newer red skates like this too?

I thought I was so clever in buying these for Kit instead of the more expensive Skateboard, but I doubt I will be abel to use them. The smell makes me sick.

Do they have a factory rubber smell? I hate that smell but found a way to get rid of it. My suggestion is to try this, and if it doesn't work, return them!

Rinse them under cool water for a few minutes then spray them with fabreze. Continue to spray with fabreze for 1-2 days. The skates will smell of fabreze for about a day or two more, but then it won't have any smell (at least thats the hope!)

This has worked for me with quite a few things with horrid smells! Good luck!

Oh, yuck! Many years ago I bought shoes that had an imitation rubber smell. They gagged anyone who smelled them, so I left them in the spare room for a while to air them out. (I have to let everything air out--aside from allergies, we have a lot of pets, including a parrot, and it's not safe to spray any chemicals around birds.) I now wish I'd never kept the shoes--after many years, I tossed 'em. So if you don't want to go through the trouble of trying to figure out a way to get the smell out, or can't use sprays, it might be a good idea to return them. Be sure to let them know, either way, that you weren't happy with the smell.

    FarmhouseGirl, I love your photos!

We have Molly's new skates and they do not have much odor to them unless you have your nose right in them, and even then it is not very strong. I would try airing them out for a while or try wrapping them in newspaper for a couple of days. Someone on this board said newspaper removes odor and we tried it when baking soda would not remove the odor from an ebay Samantha trunk. We had to change it a few times, but it worked. If all else fails, call CS and have a new pair sent.

I had a similar problem, but with Kaya's meet dress! It REEKED of a chemical smell, like perm solution or formaldhyde. I let it air out for about a week and now it's only noticable if I hold it right to my nose, but when I opened than box and that smell hit me, I almost gagged. She was new from AG, so I dunno what caused it either.

I've had some "smell" issues in the past as well, and I've found that wrapping the item in dryer sheets helps a LOT, esp. when you leave them for awhile in a plastic bag. Hey, at least dryer sheets dont' smell bad (as long as you get them in a scent you like). That seems to help. Hope it works out for ya!!
